Twitter

Is Twitter only for people with blackberrys, I-phones and G1 phones?

One of Twitter‘s goals is to keep you constantly updated on things happening around the world, whether it’s your friends latest escapade or the breaking news of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.
The Online Journalism Blog has an interesting post entitled What news did you first hear on Twitter?

Well, for me – none. I’m on Twitter, I keep it updated with daily mini-posts but I still haven’t had any breaking news even though I do follow The Guardian, The BBC and others.

So, I’m putting it all down to my lack of an internet-wired smartphone delivering as-it-happens pings straight to me, after all, I probably do check my phone more than the news and Twitter.

So let me know what you think, and if you agree donate to my “I need an I-phone to abuse Twitter!” fund.

  1. I think it’s more about the people you follow – there’s quite a few people who’ll Tweet or re-tweet news as soon as they see it, which normally arrives in your feed before traditional media Twitter feeds have caught up.

I’ve got a BlackBerry (although can never get TwitterBerry to work on it), but still don’t feel like I’m missing out on breaking news.

Using Twitter search or hashtags is a great way of finding which Tweeters are good for breaking news.
